How caffeine tablets work: the three important chemicals
When caffeine enters your system, there are primarily three things that happen. These work together to enhance your feelings of concentration and energy.

Firstly, the caffeine binds with receptors on certain nerve cells. This replaces another chemical called adenosine that would have bound with the nerve cell and triggered your body to feel tired. So now, instead of slowing down due to adenosine, your nerve cells speed up.
Caffeine & Adrenaline
As caffeine reaches your brain, higher neuron activity is also promoted. This signals your adrenal glands to produce adrenaline, the chemical that enhances your physical ability. This occurs as blood flow is restricted to your surface vessels and directed to your muscles. Blood flow is also reduced to your stomach and your liver ejects sugar for a boost of energy. Your heart now beats faster and you’ll feel excited.
Caffeine & Dopamine
Caffeine also increases the level of another chemical in your body called dopamine. Dopamine is known as the happy chemical because it activates a feeling of pleasure in your brain. The exact same thing happens when you eat chocolate due to its naturally occurring caffeine content.
